Spring is here and oh my God, thank God! It’s already bad enough that we have to deal with Mercury Retrograde for the next few weeks, so we don’t need rain to further ruin our day. There’s enough chaos already. Please, just bring the sun out and get it over with.
In case you haven’t noticed from this past newsletter, I’m quite fond of springtime. The days are brighter and longer. Tulips are 2,99€ at your local supermarket. The fruit tastes better, the wine can be enjoyed outside. And the outfits! All those fresh, stunning, gorgeous looks! I think the case is made for why Spring is the best season of the year, followed of course by Summer.
With the season in full swing, I’ve been saving a few things that are inspiring my Spring / Summer wardrobe, from minimalist jewelry to draped dresses and embroidered trousers. Calling it a moodboard might be a bit of a stretch (is it maybe more of a wishlist?), but here’s a few things I’m loving right now.
Embroidered trousers
Although my wardrobe is zero romantic, there’s something about Spring that calls for it—think voluminous skirts, dresses that flow with the breeze, and embroideries all over. Something that I’m absolutely loving for Spring specifically is embroidered trousers, especially if you pair them with a more structured flat shoe (just follow the wrong shoe theory and you’ll be fine!). You can find two great options (and on sale!) at both COS and Arket, or patiently wait for these from Djerf Avenue.
Waisted blazers
I love a good oversized blazer as much as the next girl, but there’s something really chic about the waisted version. And if you go for a soft yellow like this one from Aligne, where are you and can we be friends. My ideal waisted blazer look would 100% be paired with baggy jeans and ballet flats—just like this outfit from Cassandra Lanrick.
Vests
Or waistcoats, however you want to call them. Specifically the long vests (waistcoats?). And those that are slightly cinched at the waist. I absolutely love this piece for Spring, but of course I’m already dreaming of wearing it with a relax linen pant and a sleek flat sandal during Summer. This one from COS fits like a glove, but you can also find some really nice options at Massimo Dutti (although it’s more of a top, this white one is stunning) or live out my dream and purchase this one from Posse.
The not so basic basic
As someone who loves to dress in the most minimal way, I’ve had my fare share of “my style is so boring” moments. (Thank God for my friend Sofia, who convinced me to play with jewelry and other accessories—game changer). Apart from accessories, I also find that basics with a twist can be a great way to make a simple outfit look instantly more elevated and interesting. This can be anything, from a classic black top with an open back to an asymmetrical white t-shirt. A few items I’m eyeing right now to upgrade my not so basic basics are:
This stunning top from Paloma Wool
This open back top and this white asymmetrical one, both from Massimo Dutti
This twist-neck t-shit from COS
White dresses
Give me a crisp white dress for Spring and I’m a happy girl twirling around the hills (to the sound of music!). Jokes aside, the little white dress is as classic as it gets, easy to throw on and very versatile—if you’re the epitome of cool girl, you’re probably wearing yours over a pair of black trousers or straight jeans, and I don’t blame you (in fact, I wish I was you). Right now, I’m loving this one from Arket.
Easy breezy sets
Here is the little hint of Summer I was talking about earlier. If there’s something we can all appreciate about dressing for the warm season is how easy it is. You don’t have to think too much about it—just throw on a set and you’re good to go. This one from Deiji Studios looks like an absolute dream to live in.
Suede
Suede is having a moment—at least in my head it is. For Spring, I’m really loving the idea of adding some suede to my looks, whether it’s a jacket, a bag, or even a pair of ballet flats or loafers. Although I have my eye on this one, I feel like suede jackets in particular are a great piece to shop secondhand or vintage, so I’ll be spending my time on Vinted searching for the perfect one.
Mesh flats
If you’re counting the times I’ve mentioned mesh flats over the past few weeks, please don’t (it’s called being consistent). If there’s a pair of shoes I’ve been wearing non-stop since Spring started is, you guessed it, mesh flats. Yes, it’s true, they are a very trendy piece, but then again, how good do they look? I say very, but I’m very well aware that’s a very controversial take. Anyway, if you’re a mesh freak like me, here’s a good pair to shop right now.
Sleek sandals
Aaaaand a bit more of Summer. As soon as the temperature goes up, I’m making it all about the sleek sandal. In other words, sandals that are a bit more on the thin side of things. Extra points if they come in red or buttermilk, or if they have an interesting detail like these ones.
Rope belts
I loved this accessory during Winter, with a blazer or coat, and I’ll definitely be wearing the rope belt all Spring and Summer long. I particularly like pairing it with a skirt or dress, but you can style it with pretty much anything—from shorts to linen pants, over a top or around an oversized shirt. My favorite is this one from COS, but you can find a very similar option at Massimo Dutti (can we talk about the red one for a minute?)
Minimalist jewelry
We all know the minimalist jewelry drill by now, so I won’t bore you with why I love it so much. Instead, here’s five items that perfectly encapsulate my Spring / Summer jewelry dreams:
This necklace from Gimaguas, with a glass blown mussel, feels perfect for Summer.
This one from Nuuk would look absolutely perfect with a classic, easy-going black dress.
Beaded necklaces are an absolute must and this one from Paloma Wool is gorgeous. Also love this one from Lié Studios with different tones of beige.
A great take on the Tiffany bone cuff bracelet from MesAmies. Love this with a simple white outfit.
And lastly this stunning bracelet from Massimo Dutti.
Metal hair ties
I’ve never been much of a hair accessory kind of girl, but this image completely changed my mind when I was scrolling Pinterest. I immediately started searching for metal hair ties and ended up with this scrunchy, which I think is the perfect addition to any simple look. Will be pairing mine with a crisp white t-shirt, loose linen pants, and a nice flat shoe to finish the look.
(P.s. This post was already way too long but special mention to layering your basics for Spring—like this or this if it gets chilly—draped dresses, and anything red!)
