Things you should be reading instead: Mathilde
Meet Mathilde Misciagna, a Portuguese and Italian copywriter and the secondhand and vintage queen.
Lots of new people here on nobody is reading this (feels surreal to actually type this) so here’s some context on what the hell things you should be reading instead is. Although this newsletter is more on the personal side of things, from time to time, you’ll hear from other people who are some of my favorite human beings in the world.
Now, I’m beyond excited to introduce you to my dear friend
(I’m tagging her Substack so you can join me in convincing her to start one). She’s one of the most brilliant, funny, and stylish people I know, with the best eye for secondhand and vintage finds. Her closet is just like her—eclectic, joyful, and quirky, in the best possible way.A Portuguese and Italian copywriter, Mathilde is also an amazing wife and mom to a beautiful (and very fashionable) baby girl. She’s a storyteller who likes to entertain and be entertained, and she’s been thrift shopping and treasure hunting in flee markets for as long as she can remember. You’ll want to follow her for many reasons—her honesty about life, her vulnerability and perspective on so many important things, and her personality are up there on the list of why’s—but if you’re into secondhand and vintage, you’ll adore her content! Mathilde shares everything from her personal style to the funniest online rants on @theoutlierdiaries, and also on her TikTok account.
One item you still can’t believe you were able to score secondhand
Can I say two? A pink leather fitted motorcycle jacket and an Ulla Johnson’s army green jumpsuit for 5€ at the local Feira da Ladra.
And one thing you dream of finding at the thrift store
Still trying to find the perfect black good quality oversized blazer.
The oldest thing in your closet
Probably an old pair of Gucci monogrammed loafers I found for 30£ inside a vintage store’s forgotten (very) dusty box in Camden Town. Considering how they look and the fact that nobody wanted them I’m probably the tenth owner.
And the newest
A pair of vintage Wrangler jeans.
Your favorite place in the world
At home with my family. Or wherever as long as I’m with them. Is that cliché?
And a destination you want to travel to
I’d like to visit Japan or South Korea. But I might change my mind if you ask me again in 5 minutes.
A song you wish you could hear for the first time
“Alô alô” by Gerilson Insrael a song I listened to for the first time when I visited São Tomé e Príncipe with my husband and that later was part of my daughter’s birth soundtrack.
And one that everyone should add to their playlist
At the moment “Bom Bom” by Mayra Andrade. Instant mood booster.
Your favorite word
“Boh” is an Italian interjection that just answers anything someone might be telling you. It can mean disbelief, uncertainty or nothing really. I say it all the time because sometimes you just have nothing to add to the convo. Better say nothing than say something dumb. And there’s more truth than poetry to that.
A book that changed your life
The Little Prince. It is only with the heart than one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye. And other important messages.
And one you really want to read
At the moment I want to read Solitária by Eliana Alves Cruz because it has been in my nightstand since Christmas. But the list goes on and on. I’m not proud of my reading habits.
A hobby you want to try
I want to have fun at a dance school. I also want to try amateur acting and aerial yoga.
A skill you’ve mastered
Mood swings. Is that a skill?
A love language
Unexpected love notes. Tight hugs. Cuddles.
An underrated personality trait
Being flexible because it saves you a lot of trouble in this thing called life.
A compliment you wish you received more often
You’re skilled.
The nicest thing someone can do for you
Pick me up from my house and drop me off where I need to be.
Something you would write if nobody was reading
Raising a child and building a family is fucking scary. Scarier than I ever thought. And a serious responsibility. Try doing that when growing up you never knew what a family looked like.
Such a fun read!
i love my friends!!
